About the Artist: Jorge Salinas
I first became interested in wood turning in 2002, about 1 year after suffering a stroke. Unable to return to my job as an auto-technician, I ‘turned’ to woodturning as a form of therapy and rehabilitation. Turning literally breathed new life into me after enduring a major medical crisis as well as a career crisis!
Much to my surprise, I discovered a creative and artistic side that had never been explored before. Woodturning opened me up in wonderfully unexpected ways. I found myself wanting to experiment more and more with my new found creativity. I was motivated by my growing love of wood turning. It honestly never occurred to me that some day I would find myself dedicated full time to becoming an artist. As my skills improved I began to receive praise and encouragement from other wood turners. At first I felt that they were just being kind, but upon much insistence, I finally decided to put my work “out there”. In the short time that I have begun to display my work in public I have been very fortune to have been selected to show at juried exhibitions.
As an artist I go to great lengths to personally select each piece of wood for its uniqueness. It is my ultimate goal to fully convey the majesty of wood through the use of form, texture, finishes, and attention to detail. I am proud that my work has captured the interest of collectors from as close to home as Miami and as far away as Indonesia.
Thank you for your consideration,
Jorge Salinas
